Members of Bike Walk Wilmette were successful in obtaining an IDOT Safe Route to Schools Grant to create SRTS mapping and an action plan for Avoca School District 37. The Avoca District serves students from Wilmette, Glenview, Northfield and Winnetka. The lack of sidewalks in neighborhoods adjacent to Avoca West Elementary and Marie Murphy Middle School, as well as the Edens Expressway and Lake Avenue with 33,000 VTD which transect the district make opportunities for walking and bicycling for students difficult. The report will be published in June, 2020. It is hoped that recommendations for policy change and future funding for infrastructure improvements in the district will be attainable with the recommendations from our consultant.
