Here’s Your Chance to Tell Wilmette to Improve Biking and Walking in the Village

The Village is asking for public opinion about:
1) improving biking and walking on Green Bay Road and
2) adding a trail connecting the North Shore Channel trail to Sheridan Road.

These two areas are heavily travelled by pedestrians and cyclists. Improving safety and the walking and cycling experience in both of these areas is a worthy goal that deserves community support. Completing these two short surveys will let the Village know that residents want and support bike and walk improvements.

The Green Bay Road survey is here. The survey is open until August 30th. We all know that Green Bay Road can be a biking and walking nightmare, especially during rush hour and when trains approach. Development along Green Bay Road will continue, increasing the need for even safer walking and biking improvements.

The North Shore Channel Trail survey is here. The survey is open until August 15th. Wilmette and Evanston are partnering to evaluate the feasibility of a future trail that would connect the Channel Trail to Sheridan Road. This trail has long been considered a valuable connectivity improvement making it easy for walkers and riders to go from Illinois’ northern border south to downtown Chicago and beyond. The Channel Trail currently dead ends at Green Bay Road with no easy, safe way to get to the bike lanes on Sheridan Road.

Please take a few minutes to complete both surveys. Walking and biking improvements only happen when residents show support for them. You can help make Wilmette more walk and bike friendly!

Thank you.
