Support Safer, Easier Biking and Walking in Illinois

Slow Down Speed Limit 20-MPH Sign - H.I.P. - 12x18 | StopSignsandMore.com

Two bills are currently in the House Transportation Committee on Vehicles & Safety. A show of support is needed to get them to the House floor.

News • Eugene, OR • CivicEngage

Lowering default speed limit in Illinois urban areas (HB 3530):
Given that excessive speed is the most common factor in serious and fatal crashes, reducing the state’s default speed limit from 30 mph to 20 mph would eliminate an enormous number of traffic fatalities.

Safety stop for bicyclists (HB 3649):
This bill would allow bicyclists to treat a stop sign as a yield sign, assuming there are no traffic hazards and that it is safe to proceed.

Here is more from Active Transportation Alliance on the need for both of these bills.
